“Coastal and casual...mixing styles that surprise…!”

Heidi Bonesteel brings her love of the unexpected to underscore the originality of each of her design projects. Relishing the unique relationship between designer and client, Heidi takes a special interest in exploring the specific needs of each of her clients to meet their functional needs and financial budgets, yet while delighting the client with a unique imprint of their personality in the design outcome. Whether it is clever room flow and usage plans for a growing family, or designing open entertaining spaces for the consummate host, or devising unique display methods for a client’s exotic collections, Heidi believes client individuality is paramount to turn an ordinary house into a home. She maintains close collaborations with art advisors and other professionals who can bring their expertise to assist in the careful selection of art, sculpture and other custom furnishings to each project. Authenticity, creativity, warmth and collaboration are the hallmarks of all Heidi’s designs.

Heidi’s projects come together with grace and experience, well earned over the last two decades of both her formal training and passionate exploration of design and the arts. Growing up in Southern California, she always had an affinity for the rugged natural beauty of the coastal regions. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in English Literature, she went on to pursue her Interior and Environment Design Certificate at UCLA. Heidi’s professional career began as an apprentice with a residential interior design firm in Los Angeles where she participated in the most exciting residential projects at the time, and gained a particular knowledge in textiles and other natural materials. Heidi was then recruited to join Hannah Gordon Design, a high-end residential design firm in 1994, later becoming a partner.

Sharing entrepreneurial zeal, Southern California aesthetic references and passion for excellent client service with Michele Trout and Jill Hall, Heidi joined them to form Bonesteel Trout Hall in 2004. The firm creates fresh Southern California beauty in all its work. This attitude, paired with its founders’ expert education and business acumen, make Bonesteel Trout Hall a much sought after interior design firm, regardless of client geography.

With over twenty years experience, the firm’s prodigious body of creative work has been recognized by myriad national and regional publications including Architectural Digest, Coastal Living, House Beautiful, Interiors, Luxe, and California Home Design, as well as numerous websites and blogs. Most recently, the firm is the 2013 winner of the Pacific Design Center’s Stars on the Rise Award as well as the 2012 recipient of Traditional Home’s prestigious New Traditionals Award. Heidi lives in Brentwood with her husband and two children, and her family enjoys both traveling the world and cooking together at home.
